More information: I had a conversation with a friend recently who was recounting some family members' challenges as a result of fires and earthquakes. She mentioned how difficult it was for them to access their money because all of their identification had burned up in the fire, and as a result, they had no proof of identity. This created numerous problems for them because to get a new driver's license, they needed a birth certificate or social security card and a copy of a bill (all of which had also burned in the fire), etc. She encouraged me to go make copies of my driver's license, birth certificate, and other documents and store them in a location other than my house. She also talked about how valuable trash bags were after an earthquake in her state because they could be used for so many purposes--as a poncho in the rain, as a tarp to create a temporary shelter, as a liner for a bucket serving as a temporary toilet, etc.
I have joined a lot of Facebook groups on emergency preparedness and have learned that "...small and simple things" (Alma 37:6) really can make a tremendous difference in an emergency. (For instance, inexpensive HotHands handwarmers have kept friends' pipes from freezing in Texas, and have protected their entire home as a result.)
So here's your first emergency preparedness challenge! This bingo game contains small, simple, and relatively inexpensive items (under $10) that can help your family in an emergency. Can your family get a bingo before the end of the month? Can you get a blackout?
